Week 2, May 2018 Live-Music Events

Below are some live-music events for May 14-20, the second full Monday-to-Sunday week of May. These are picked from our Top-25 list of presenters and venues that serve Lee County and its orbiting communities. I'd love feedback on the list. It excludes a lot of things in the non-local world, so fuss at me if I need to look at something else.

The violin-piano duo with Jenny Gregoire and Edisher Savitsky are in blue on May 17 because I am involved as organizer of A Little Lunch Music. They're on the music faculty at Bama and are playing Stravinsky and Grieg. I expect it to be really great.

My pick of the week in yellow is Bernstein's Candide in Atlanta (graphic at right is from the promotions). It is a collaboration between the Alliance Theatre and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and involves some very cool-looking puppetry. The production's ensemble will feature an Auburn native and A Little Lunch Music alumna, soprano Kathleen Farrar Buccleugh!

Of note are the Messy Cookers Jazz Band (messycookers.com), a trad jazz group from New Orleans playing at The Loft in Columbus on Friday and anything at Standard Deluxe (cicadarhythm.com & willstewartmusic.com).
