The Moscow String Quartet performs in Auburn Wednesday (3/20/2013)!

On Wednesday night (3/20), 7:30 pm at Goodwin Hall, we will hear the Moscow String Quartet play Borodin's quartet no. 2 in D Major, Tchaikovsky's no. 2 in F Major, and Shostakovich No. 1 in C Major. Tickets are $20 at the door for adults, $5 for college students, free for younger students. For more info call 887-9379.

The Moscow played a similar program at the Frick Collection in Manhattan in October, 2011 and the NYTimes ran a rave review of it. These women have played in nearly every coveted venue in the world, since 1975--in Paris, London, Amsterdam, Brussels, Leipzig, every major hall in New York, the White House, etc., as well as throughout Russia.

This quartet stands squarely in the musical AND political world of the 20th century: former German chancellor Willy Brandt asked them to play to commemorate the fall of the Berlin Wall, and they played the work of Alfred Schnittke, whose music was repressed by the Soviet establishment. Modern music was discredited by the government throughout the cold war, and these women played it anyway.

Parking is very difficult on campus, so we have secured a shuttle service. If you park in the parking lot on the southeast corner of S. College and Samford Ave., from 6:45 on, you can catch the little white electric bus with the "Gotcha" logo. They will return riders at the end of the concert.
