Casablanca with Live Score in Atlanta, Jazz at AU Hotel, More

Here's a half-post about upcoming events. I'm otherwise involved this week.

On Friday, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will play a live score to the 1942 classic film Casablanca. This sounds like it could be incredibly cool. Here's the event page. The event will be hosted by Ben Mankiewicz, the weekend daytime host of Turner Classic Movies.

Then on Sunday (7/17), as part of the National Black Arts Festival (I wish they would have called it something else), the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will perform Verdi, Bruch, Still and Mendelssohn at Ebeneezer Baptist Church. Performing will be violist Paul Laraia, 2011 winner of the Sphinx Competition, and Atlanta Youth Orchestra/Talent Development Program harpist Angelica Hairston. Here is the event page from ASO's website. Here is the church's contact page for directions.

Back in Auburn

On Thursday (7/14), the Jane Drake Trio returns to Piccolo. Playing with Jane will be Tom Chadwick on piano and Sidney Simmons on bass. Then on Friday (7/15) and Saturday (7/16), there will be jazz there, and Tim sent me the names, but they're stuck in a machine to which I can't get right now. Same is true of whomever is playing at the jazz brunch at Ariccia, 11-2, on Sunday (7/17).

Columbus, Montgomery
On Friday (7/15), The Lou Valley Group will perform at The Loft, 7-9 PM EST, in Columbus. Members are pianist Lou Valley, vocalist Susan Swan, saxophonist Fred Ezekiel and drummer David Morgan.

Then on Sunday, 1048 Jazz and Blues will hold its weekly Sunday jazz jam, 9:30 PM - 12:30 AM.

I plan to do another post on Sunday for the rest of these next 7 days. To see what's upcoming, look at the end of my last event post.
