Auryn (ow'-reen) Quartet from Cologne, Germany, Performs 2017-Oct-19

"...the Auryn Quartet gave a compellingly dramatic and magnificently assured performance.” -The Times, London

Below is from Virginia Transue, co-president of the Auburn Chamber Music Society (facebook page), a more than 50-year-old effort to bring world-class classical music to Auburn. The Auryn Quartet (www.aurynquartet.com) will open the Society's 2017-8 series Thursday. From the website: "Pronunciation : Au-, rhymes with wow!, -ryn rhymes with queen; the stress is on Au-"

Starting at 6:30, a free shuttle will take people to Goodwin from the parking lot at the corner of Samford Ave. and College St., a couple blocks away. After 5:00 pm, it can be moderately easy to find pretty close and legal on-campus parking in lots marked A or B. There's usually parking in the deck on Stadium Dr., too. But enough about me. -PMc

Performing in Auburn at 7:30 pm on Thursday, Oct. 19, at Goodwin Hall (320 W. Samford Ave., Auburn, AL) on the AU campus, is one of the most sought-after quartets of our era. Cologne-based, the Auryn was formed 28 years ago, and not long afterward studied with the legendary Guarneri Quartet, which first played here 50 years ago when THEY were a new foursome. Among the program choices for this tour was one they have dubbed "Last Quartets", which we could not resist: the last quartet Mendelssohn wrote, and Benjamin Britten's last, and Dvorak's last. So, we have a quartet in its prime, playing 3 composers at their most mature.

Single tickets are available at the door, and remain only $25 for adults and $10 for students.
